18-yer-old Teenager identified as Raul Lopez, faces charges after he allegedly almost suffocated his pregnant girlfriend on Wednesday during a fight over what to name their baby.
News station, WBBH reported that, he started arguing with his girlfriend after he suggested naming the baby boy they are expecting after him, but she did not agree.
She eventually locked herself in a bedroom during the heated exchange.
He got into the room by removing the door knob, according to authorities, and covered his girlfriend’s nose and mouth with his hands until she began losing consciousness, then Her mom called 911 after breaking up the fight.
The Lee County Sheriff Office said the couple first started fighting about baby names Wednesday at Wal-Mart, but the dispute escalated when the pair returned to their home in Fort Myers, Florida and then confirmed that the baby was not injured.
Lopez faces felony charges of aggravated battery on a pregnant woman and domestic battery by strangulation, according to county records.
He was released from jail Wednesday and scheduled to appear in court on July 10.
