Sani Abacha was a Nigerian Army general and politician who served as the de facto President of Nigeria from 1993 to 1998.
Abacha’s regime is controversial: although it saw dramatic economic growth, there was widespread human-rights abuse.
According to Swiss authorities, his family was a criminal organization that managed to acquire between US$3 billion and $5 billion.
