One of the survivors of the horrific accident involving a moving train and a Lagos State government staff bus on Thursday, March 9, has recounted the events leading up to the collision.
The survivor, simply identified as Titilayo, revealed that they begged the bus driver to wait for the train to pass, but he refused, which led to the crash.
Titilayo, a middle-aged female staff member of Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Ikeja, who sustained injuries on her lower limbs, disclosed that she boarded the staff bus while going to work yesterday morning.
Speaking to journalists, she said,
“The incident happened around 7.15am. When we got to the intersection at PWD in Ikeja, the driver continued driving. Passengers inside the bus, including myself, begged him to wait for the train to pass before crossing, but he didn’t listen.
“Midway, just before he could finish crossing the rail tracks, the accident happened. Many of us were rushed here, while five others were taken to Gbagada General Hospital.”
The unfortunate crash occurred at the PWD bus stop in the Ikeja area of the state on Thursday morning. Six people were said to have died on the spot, while scores of others suffered varying levels of injuries and were rushed to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) in Ikeja.
