The US president, Donald Trump was recorded pleading with Georgia’s election chief to rig the election in his favour.
In the recorded phone call, Trump requested that the Georgia Secretary of State “find him 11,780” votes to enable him win the election.
When the Secretary told him it’s a crime to rig an election, Trump threatened him that he’ll be criminally liable.
Meanwhile, Trump confirmed in a tweet on Sunday, Jan 3rd, that he had spoken with Georgia’s secretary of state, Republican Brad Raffensperger.
Audio snippets of the conversation were posted online by The Washington Post. A recording of the call was later obtained by The Associated Press from a person who was on the call.
Trump had said in the recording,
“All I want to do is this. I just want to find 11, 780 more votes, which is one more than we have.”
“The people of Georgia are angry, the people in the country are angry.
“And there’s nothing wrong with saying, you know, um, that you’ve recalculated.”
The release of the audio has led to the trend of the hashtag #TrumpTapes.
