The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of popular Kano TikTok skit maker, Murja Ibrahim Kunya.
Murja was arrested at the Tahir Hotel in Kano while trying to book rooms for her guests, who came from distant places to attend her much-publicized birthday bash.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, who confirmed Murja’s arrest in a statement on Sunday night, January 29, 2023, said she was arrested following complaints from clerics that she uses vulgar language and corrupts the morals of society in her videos.
Her arrest followed a request from a Shari’ah Court in Bichi to the state’s commissioner of police to arrest and investigate her alongside other TikTok users.
The other TikTok users included in the request letter were Mr. 442, Safara’u, Dan Maraya, Amude Booth, Kawu Dan Sarki, Ado Gwanja, Ummi Shakira, Samha Inuwa, and Babiana.
“Sequel to the complaint lodged by Muhd Ali Hamza Esq, Abba Mahmud, Esq, Sunusi I. Umar Esq, Abba, A.T Bebeji Esq, B.I Usman Esq, Muhd Nasir Esq, L.T Dayi Esq, G.A Badawi & Badamasi Suleiman Gandu Esq, I am directed by the presiding Upper Sharia Court Judge, Bichi Division Kano to write and kindly request you to conduct investigation against the above mentioned suspects for proper action.” The letter read in part.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Dauda, has ordered that the suspect undergo psychiatric evaluation.
