A viral video showing a man boasting of being part of the group that killed and burnt a female Sokoto student for alleged blasphemy has been shared online.
Deborah Samuel, a female student at Sokoto’s Shehu Shagari College of Education, was beaten and burned to death by a crowd on Thursday, May 12 for supposed blasphemy.
Deborah allegedly sent a voice message to her class WhatsApp group chat to chastise those who were constantly sending religious material and videos to the group. The dead, who stated that the group’s aim was for school material, assignments, and tests, was accused of insulting Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
Some Muslim students at the school were reportedly enraged by this, and they stoned her, beat her to death, and burned her body. A disturbing video that was shared online showed Deborah being stoned, assaulted, and burned to death by an enraged mob on the school premises.
Amid the outrage over the gruesome murder of Deborah, a yet-to-be identified man in a viral video is seen bragging about being a part of her murder.
“I killed her. I burnt her. You can see the matchbox I used in setting her ablaze here”, he said in Hausa.
