Come on, you know you’ve wondered, at one time or another. Right?

You still don’t know what I’m talking about?

If you look right on the back of a shirt, you should find that there is a very small hoop of material right in the middle of the shoulder blades. See a sample below:

What’s the deal with this little hoop anyway? I figured that it was just a useless thing that designers thought would look cool. I paid no more attention to it. Until now, when I found out that there really IS a reason that it exists.

Well, the truth of the matter is that the little loop actually dates back to a time when there were no wardrobes – only chests of drawers.

Now, as most of you will know, if you put a freshly ironed (or pressed) shirt into a drawer, it will wrinkle up in no time. That is the last thing you want.

So, the little hoop on the back of the shirt allowed people to hang their shirts in the hallway rather than put them away in their drawers.

Feel free to hang your shirts with pleasure.
