Nigerian music executive, Don Jazzy, has revealed that he usually advises his signees to emulate Nigerian singer, Portable.
The Mavin boss, who made this revelation in a recent interview and also gave his reasons for this advice, said he uses the Zazu Zeh star as an example whenever he is talking to his artistes about how to stay relevant in the music industry.
Don Jazzy recalled how Portable came into the limelight in 2021 and has since maintained his status. Don Jazzy also compared BNXN (formerly Buju) and Portable, who both became big music stars in 2021.
He pointed out that BNXN already had seven songs on the charts when Portable first gained notoriety with his breakout single, Zazuu Zeh, courtesy of Olamide, but the controversial singer’s followers increased to a million faster.
Don Jazzy noted that Portable’s controversial lifestyle benefits his career, as it keeps him in the news and makes him relevant even if he doesn’t release new songs.
The Mavin boss said when he’s having meetings with his team, he makes them understand that it’s not enough to just release good songs and let their sails down.
He said that he makes them realize the algorithm will favor them if they put themselves out there and do things that will make their names come up in conversations like Portable does.
