A Ghanaian police officer, got handsomely rewarded for returning GHc 2,000 the equivalent of N138,120 which he found lying at an ATM stand by mistake.
The gentleman, identified as Constable Prince Fordjour, received a total cash price of GHc 11,000 (N759,662) and other souvenirs at a ceremony at the Police Headquarters on July 16, 2021.
The Ghana Police Force narrated the impeccable gesture on their official Facebook handle, and explained that the officer was being rewarded not only for the amount involved but for his integrity.
Fordjour got a total investment fund of GHc 4,000 (N276,240); a gift voucher of GHc 1,000 (N69,060), a current account credited with GHc 1,000 (N69,060) and corporate souvenirs of the Stanbic Bank.
Inspector-General of Police, Mr James Oppong-Boanuh who was also pleased with Constable Fordjour’s action also presented him with a cash amount of GHc 5,000 (N345,300).
The monies put together totaled GHc 11,000 (N759, 662). Ghana police wrote on its Facebook page;

Constable Prince Fordjour of the Police National SWAT has been presented with a special investment fund of four thousand Ghana cedis; gift voucher of one thousand Ghana cedis, current account credited with one thousand Ghana cedis and corporate souvenirs of the Stanbic Bank, for displaying honesty and integrity.
At a ceremony at the Police Headquarters today 16th July, 2021, the Stanbic Bank’s Branding and Marketing Manager Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu said Constable Fordjour on 5th July 2021 found cash of Two Thousand Ghana Cedis (2000.00 ghc) discharged by the bank’s ATM at Abeka Total with nobody in sight.
However, the constable reported the incident to his Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Theodore Hlormenu who in turn returned the money to the bank.
” It is not about the amount involved but the gesture of the constable which personifies what the police represents in the community, which is the same as our motto ‘Service with Integrity’, ” he said.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr James Oppong-Boanuh who was pleased with Constable Fordjour’s action also presented him with cash amount of five thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 5,000) and thanked the bank for not keeping the news to themselves. The IGP used the occasion to encourage Police Officers to stand up for the right thing at all times even when no one is watching.
