President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, insisted that his administration would ensure that Central Bank of Nigeria will not to provide foreign exchange for those importing food or fertilizer into the country.
Buhari said that rather than providing Forex for import, he would empower local farmers and producers, adding that there are able-bodied people who are willing to work and ”agriculture is the answer.”
The president wrote;
“I am restating it that nobody importing food or fertilizer should be given foreign exchange from the Central Bank. We will not pay a kobo of our foreign reserves to import food or fertilizer. We will instead empower local farmers and producers.
We have a lot of able-bodied young people willing to work, and agriculture is the answer.”
Replying Buhari’s statement, a Nigerian Twitter user @Intergrity56 pointed out that his son, Yusuf Buhari is also an able-bodied man.
“Yusuf is also an able-bodied young man.” he wrote.
